The Tama Toa pilot programme is designed to encourage Year 7-8 boys to build leadership skills, improve relationships, and increase physical and emotional wellbeing.
Key challenges like truancy are discussed and the programme develops students' taha whānau (relationships), leadership, taha tinana (physical health), and social media awareness. Rugby league is used to engage rangatahi and reinforce positive messages.
The programme fosters connection, role modelling, and leadership, with final sessions co-designed by students and teachers.
